A presentation of the basic legal system, its terminology, and principles as applied to professional and amateur sport. Emphasis is on identifying and analyzing legal issues, the ramifications of those issues, and the means of limiting the liability of sport organizations.


Sally Sullivan
Instructor, Sports Law Course

 Sally Sullivan has been involved in many facets of sports:  competitor, coach, sales representative for sports equipment companies,attorney/agent; and a professor.

Sally’s passion for sports began as a competitive tennis player. As a nationally ranked junior and then participant in the Futures Circuit, Sally traveled the world playing tennis. Coaching followed her playing days, having coached in Connecticut, Florida, Texas, Washington, Oregon, and England.  After a divorce, Sally decided to apply her expertise and understanding of sports by attending law school and then representing athletes as an attorney with Garvey Schubert & Barer in Washington.  Some of her clients were:  Venus and Serena Williams (tennis); Lincoln Kennedy (football);  Katy Steding, Jennifer Azzi, Pauline and Janine Jordan, Julie Zielstra (women’s basketball)  In addition Sally has represented minor league baseball players and Olympic Athletes.  Following her attorney/agent career, Sally has turned to teaching first with Kaplan then with Sports Management Worldwide; and then with Nova Southeastern University; Northcentral University; Concordia, DeVry, and now Pro Edge Sports Academy.
